COMMITTED TO OUR ENVIRONMENT

SUSTAINABILITY

The implementation of sustainability in business is key to achieving social transformation towards sustainable economic models with objectives that positively affect all three dimensions: economic, environmental and social. By integrating sustainability criteria into all of the company’s production processes, we generate a positive impact on the planet, society and on the economic development of a country, which provides an opportunity for profitability that is consistent with social and environmental responsibility.

Grupo Maya is a company with a long history, but in the midst of a generational change that has one clear objective: to integrate sustainability into its business performance and make it part of its corporate culture.

Prioritising the environment

In order to guarantee the quality of our services and products in an optimal and environmentally friendly way, at Grupo Maya we implement the Integrated Quality and Environment System, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, setting new objectives and indicators every year for continuous improvement of our business performance.

As a result of our commitment to sustainability, we joined the United Nations Global Compact initiative as a partner, an organisation whose objective is to support companies in establishing strategies and objectives aligned with the Ten Principles of the Global Compact and to actively participate in achieving the targets of the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda. On an annual basis, we make a Sustainability Report to the Global Compact, reporting our progress on sustainability. To keep moving forward and improving every year, we implement policies aligned with our corporate sustainability strategy:

Quality Policy

Equality Policy

Health and Safety Policy

Environmental Policy

CSR Policy

Code of Ethics

At Grupo Maya, we decided to go one step further in relation to the 2030 Agenda and we certified with AENOR in its Sustainability Strategy and Contribution to the SDGs. The aim is to have a certification scheme for sustainability management aligned with the 2030 Agenda, to disseminate our commitment to stakeholders and to integrate this model into our Management System. This certification, along with the report to the Global Compact, shows Grupo Maya’s real and transparent commitment to sustainability.

On the other hand, we believe it is important to communicate and disseminate our good business practices to our stakeholders, thus generating a collective awareness that expands sustainability throughout the supply chain backbone by promoting the replication of what we already do. That is why at Grupo Maya we adhere to SEDEX (Supplier Ethical Data Exchange) which is the Supplier Ethical Data Exchange, and is audited with the SMETA 4 PILLARS Ethical Trade Audit which comprises:

BUSINESS ETHICS

We recognise that business has a critical role to play, both in addressing environmental degradation and combating climate change, by orienting business performance towards alternative and resilient models for the future sustainability of the planet. We focus on alternative models and decision making to guide us towards our roadmap for integrating sustainability into production processes and reducing our Carbon Footprint:

Renewable
energies

In its transition towards clean energy, our company has installed photovoltaic solar energy panels on the roof of the building, which are connected to software that reflects daily indicators of energy consumption and environmental benefits. This installation sends very satisfactory energy efficiency and carbon footprint reduction data.

Circular economy

We progressively reduce our waste by promoting a circular economy, avoiding the use of natural resources and setting new reduction targets each year. However, at Grupo Maya, not only are we committed to reducing waste from production processes, we also set ourselves new challenges by designing and manufacturing products from recycled raw materials. This alternative is increasingly in demand by a market that is more aware of environmental issues, which is why two projects have been created in line with the concepts of Blue Economy, with the EVERSEA® collection, and Green Economy with the Maya Green Solutions line.

Our Maya Green Solutions line is committed to innovation in order to offer products and services that contribute to the collection of MSW urban waste and care for the environment, providing technological solutions framed within the Smart Cities paradigm.

Grupo Maya has joined the SEAQUAL initiative, a collaborative community for helping to clean our oceans of the marine plastic waste that directly impacts marine biodiversity. Waste removed from seas and oceans is given a second life by transforming it into SEAQUAL® MARINE PLASTIC. This is how the EVERSEA® collection was born, our most respectful line with the marine world and through which we recovered 7 tons of plastic material from the sea last year, used in the manufacture of our products.

Carbon Footprint

Aware of the environmental problems related to climate change, we decided to seek new targets to reduce the environmental impact of our production processes as much as possible, which is why we carried out the following actions:

  • Calculation of the organisation’s carbon footprint.

  • Offsetting the carbon footprint through reforestation.

  • Defining and implementing a Carbon Footprint Reduction Plan.

The team

Grupo Maya’s main asset is our Human Team, which is why we strive to offer a healthy, safe and inclusive working environment with a schedule of actions aimed at promoting equality among the people who make up our corporation. Sustainability forms part of Grupo Maya’s “DNA”, and this is demonstrated by our labour force that actively participates in corporate volunteer actions, such as the collection of plastics from the beaches of El Saler, and reforestation with native species in degraded areas of the region, offsetting our carbon footprint.

These volunteer actions have a twofold objective: firstly, they promote environmental education and awareness among the workforce and, secondly, they encourage teamwork and cohesion among people in actions of civic engagement for the good of all.
